The Leftover
As part of a feature-length documentary film for the cinema that was never completed about the climate crisis, our film production conducted numerous interviews over the course of several months with renowned climate scientists. The ambitious project grew out of a desire to make an independent, unfiltered contribution to the public debate—driven by idealism, curiosity, and a passion for filmmaking.
With the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, the project came to an abrupt halt. The film was not finished, and the interviews initially remained unpublished—archived, preserved, and waiting for the right moment.
Four years later, we return to this material and develop it into a podcast format. Together with climate psychologist Isabella Lang, we reframe the conversations, reflect on them from today’s perspective, and connect scientific insights with personal, psychological, and societal questions about the climate crisis.
The podcast shows how valuable well-researched film material created with a long-term view can be—even beyond the original boundaries of a project. It exemplifies our documentary approach: not only producing content, but also continuing to think it through, putting it into context, and translating it into new formats.
